I am asking to help me build up to starting to machine quilt(hand quilter here) Today I am studying everyone's machine quilting in their photos and weeding out the negatives in my mind voice with a new tape that says, " I'm going to do that one day, or I can do that one day.Thank you for sharing and enjoy your new long arm baby!
I had mostly just done little projects on my home machine. Not anything to fancy. Anything bigger than twin size went to a friend to quilt on her longarm. I made the decision a year ago to purchase. Thankfully, my husband is super supportive. I had about 4 months of training with my dealer before I even felt comfortable to have it set up in my house. The very first quilt by myself brought me to tears. I had tension issues and really felt like I made a bad decision. I had wonderful support from the dealer though and she and her staff kept assuring me I could do it. I spent several months practicing on quilts that my mother and I had pieced and hadn't had time to quilt. Then several ladies at the LQS asked me to quilt some baby quilts for our towns Welcome Home project. That built up my confidence alot. They were small and it allowed me to get comfortable with the machine and not feel so overwhelmed. I have graduated to bigger quilts and tried different things like quilting with a minky backing. So a year later I feel much more comfortable and felt like I could show off some of my work. Thanks to all of you who have looked and commented. It is really nice to be able to share with others.
