It can be used for either. I tend to use them as quilts just because I have 6 kids. Anything on the table gets stained.
I would venture to say when they leave home I might use them...but somehow I think with 6 kids I will never be alone....or without dinner guests.
I am sure I will have grandkids sooner or later.
