It's an adjustable seam guide. A screw goes thru y-shaped slot & into one of the holes to the right of your needle. You can loosen the screw & turn it to the area that you need ( curved or straight)...& slide back/ forth for the size seam allowance you want.
I wish the my machines had a place to put a guage. I have a Husqvarna 1+ and a Singer DSXll, neither of which has a screw hole on it. Used to use it all athe time on my old machine.
