I am making 2 crib quilts for my niece who just had twins. She has asked for polka dots. My plan is to make a bunch of circles in different sizes and fabrics, then fuse and applique them onto white Kona.
If I sandwiched the Kona and the backing, then appliqued the circles with a blanket stitch- would that work properly? I have done the applique first, then quilted, but not used the blanket stitch as a quilting stitch. Any opinions?
It would probably work but it's going to leave rough stitching on the back. I'd do the applique first and then quilt it. You can quilt over the appliques.
