I'm so glad this thread was posted, it opened my eyes
I am also searching for the right color of thread to match the fabric I'm piecing. I will now use up all these small spools of thread I have from my clothing sewing days and all the bobbins that came with my machine I bought at an Estate Sale, of course after checking to see if the thread is still good.
