Hi MadameKelly, great job. Please tell us what you used to color your quilted square - regular crayons, fabric crayons, or the new colored pencils that you "paint" after coloring. Also, did you iron after coloring to set? Thanks for info.
The colors we used are called Derwent ink tense pencils, not terribly expensive, and very nice color results, and also we used Neocolor II Pastel Water Colors that came in a huge set that the instructor told us cost $250. The Neocolor were wonderful for blending and mixing colors to get different effects. After we finished coloring the quilted fabric squares, we painted over the paint witha soft brush and textile medium mixed with water in a 1:3 ratio. After the textile medium dried, we heat set them with an iron. We were also told not to wash them for at least 72 hours. If you want to try this art form, be aware that you must work slowly and methodically with the textile medium, as your colors can spread if things get too wet. I found it fun to do, but now I want to see what I can do with more affordable colored pencils.
