Well, that's a little difficult to answer...Because I work full-time and this is a hobby (A.K.A "Obsession"), I can't tell you exactly how many hours I've put in working on feathers, but I can tell you that after about a year of drawing and sewing feathers, I started to like what I was turning out. If I had to guess, I'd say I put in maybe 5-10 hours a week, give or take, on FMQ. At first I was mostly practicing, but soon I started making small projects like placemats and wall hangings. The first feathers that seemed OK enough to put on an actual table runner were Sally Terry's Hook feathers that I had practiced from her Hooked on Feathers book.
http://www.sallyterry.com/Public/Gal...lery/index.cfm They were easier for me to do initially. After I was comfortable with those, I started working on the style of feather I am doing now, turning out lots of really little projects with single feathers on them; eyeglass cases, cell phone cases, notebook covers, cosmetic bags, purses, messenger bags, etc... Doing that let me concentrate on the feathers instead of dealing with the bulk of a larger quilted piece.
So, I don't think there's a clear answer to your question, but maybe this will give you an idea of what it took for me anyway.
