leaders and Enders are small pieces of fabric you feed under your pressure foot right before and after the fabric you are piecing (chain stitch style) to keep your stitching straight and to keep from having any small points getting "eaten" up. Others are referring to using planned, precut squares for the leaders and Enders and then using them in a separate, second quilt.
