The design and colors in your quilt are beautiful. I think an inner white border would really bring the design forward without the feeling of crowding it into a rectangle. Perhaps a narrow red border and dark blue border and binding would be very complimentary to the theme. I would not make the binding a contrast because I think it might carry the eye away from the message.
