Welcome to the QB. If you can sew a garment and follow directions, then you can make a quilt. As above, you will be using a very accurate 1/4 inch seam. Until you can cut pieces accurately from a large piece of fabric - I think you would be wise to buy a jelly roll and use it to make either a plain strip quilt or cut the pieces and make a very simple 9-patch.
