I definitely use the speed control!! I set it about half way between the slowest speed and the middle--so about 1/4 way up and find that a perfect speed for me. I just "floor" the pressure foot and can totally concentrate on what I am stitching. It is such a powerful machine I would really have a problem regulating the speed without it!
