Sounds like that foot doesn't fit your machine. I've never seen any adjustment on any of them. Although there are generic ones out there, that doesn't make them magically fit every machine, they are usually designed to fit a range of machines. You need to make sure that it is installed correctly and if the needle hits the foot, it's the wrong one for your machine and you will need to purchase one that is specific for your machine.
In addition, I thought I would save money by purchasing a generic one that fit my machine. It broke within a few months' of moderate use. The one made by my machine company is much more sturdily made, works great but was more expensive.
