Well done Colleen, your 27 is in remarkable condition. I'm sure you know it's from 1907.
When winding the bobbin, I trap the end of the thread between the bobbin and the winder. Can't recall where I read that but it's the only thing that works easily. Yes the bobbin "snaps" into the winder: The bobbins have a little round bit on the ends, they look like a ball from a ball point pen.
