UM levers can fall off, too - we used to have an ancient VW bus. It would either shift gears or fall out of the track. I had a real panic when the gear shift fell off when I crossed the RR tracks - it's a wonder it had a transmission. When you opened it and then went to shut it, the door either shut, jammed or fell off. It fell off in a thunder storm at 11pm one time. ARGH.
