I am having difficulty as I am maturing (you know what I mean!) using dark fabrics on a green background. I sometimes miss the accurate alignment needed with the ruler due to the lack of contrast.

Don't know about white mats with red markings…..but have you checked out the Martelli mats?
www.martellinotions.com……they are purple on one side with yellow markings (for use with light colors) and yellow on the other side (both sides usable for cutting and both sides with markings.
