A few years ago, the Gee's Bend quilts were exhibited at the Tacoma Art Museum. A group of ladies from Alabama brought a quilt top their mother made in the 1970's when she herself was in her 70's to have the Gee's Bend ladies autograph. My sister and I started talking with them. The quilt was hand stitched using embroidery floss from all their childhood clothes. They shared such wonderful memories with me. The fact that I was a quilter excited them and I was asked to complete the quilt. It was such an honor to put the border on, quilt and bind such a memory for them. They were so thrilled they asked me to complete a second one their mother made.
