When I use the #5, I put a leather Thimble Pad on my thumb in addition to the one on my middle finger. Used together they make the pulling very easy without slowing down the stitching process, and keeping my index finger uncovered makes my stitches more even. Besides being an extra step, pliers can scar the needle and make it catch on the fabric. I really like the look of #5, too, and am glad you're pleased with it.
