Terri...just a suggestion...which i did on a very difficult paper piece star a while back. I could not get the center right. Like you - there were just too many seams and intersections. In the end - i replaced that jumble of seams with a one piece triangle at the point of each block - cut away the underneath multiple seams....I then had no other seams - just 8 nice solid pieces of fabric to sew. Changed the center of the quilt - added an 8 point "pinwheel" kinda thing...but hey....i got it sewn and flat.
