Yes, I did check out the fit of the Singer throat plate screws. I did not test non-Singer throat plate screws. The Singer throat plate screws were not a good fit. They do go in about 1 to 1 1/2 turns, which is enough to seem right. However, not enough to tighten down on the bobbin-winder hood unless you were lucky enough to get exactly the right length. I would not trust a screw with only 1 1/2 threads engaged.
I did have one screw in my stash that fit perfectly, a 10-28 screw. Not at all common.
You should have seen the puzzled look they gave me at the local hardware store
. I will
check online for a source for the 1/2 x 10-18 screw with a flat seat.

Adding your info to mine it seems that they may have changed from four screws in the
casting to two between 06/1938 and 04/1941. Anyone have a 201 or 15 between these two dates?

You can't believe how happy I was to figure that one out.

OK I opened up the second 201 -not the one with the pretty black chrome.
It has 4 holes serial number AF 002549 made in 1938
The one with 2 holes was AF 893247 (pretty black chrome) made in1941
