I'm going to go with the sashing. Although I love the idea of using a red, I'll use white, greatly because I have more of that than I do my reds and I don't want to buy anything else for this quilt (see my original post about throwaway). I will do throw-to-twin sized, because I'd like something the child can grow with, plus something for the family. The original idea was a family gift to say "congrats on the start of your family. It was only the busy-ness that made the quilt smaller.
