Well I did a spot test on some fabric just like it and it worked when I hand washed it.
I did the coloring and then I heat set it with my iron. Then I waited about 5 minutes and put it in a sink of cool water with some soap and gently swirled it around. Then I rinsed it off and all the color was still on it. So I think that what I will do is just do this fabric the same way I did the test fabric. Oh and I will write the instructions for cleaning on the back of it.
