I did not see this link but I can tell you how I would do it. If I am understanding your question correctly, you want the corners of the pillow ruffle to be square and not rounded. To do this, I think that you would need to measure each side of the pillow and decide how full a ruffle you want, usually 1 1/2 to 2 times the length of each side. Cut pieces to this measurement plus some extra to allow you to mitre the corners. Mitre each corner before adding your gathering stitches along the inside edges. (The side that will go next to the pillow edge.). Pull in your gathering stitches and space the gathering evenly along each side. Then pin to the pillow so that the seam line for the mitered corners meets each corner neatly, pin the rest to fit each side and sew on, being careful to keep things matched at the corners.
