it may be best if you "block" your quilt top first since it is wavy. spritz it wet if necessary and pin to the rug or how ever you can get it to stay in place after making sure it's straight. each end should measure the same width or length. then measure for your borders and match centers and ends and pin, pin, pin. then stitch on.
