When I buy any kind of trim I carefully take it out of the package and put a few basting stitches in it to hold it together. Then I put it into a lingerie/laundry bag and toss into washer with like colors. Then into the dryer. Then use a cool iron to press. the stitching keeps it in place so it doesn't get tangled with the rest of any trim. My Dh looks at me funny when he sees laundry bags in he wash. I pre wash everything going into a quilt with exception of course to thread.
