The important length (timing length) is the top of the shank to the top of the eye. The timing lengths for various needles are:
15x1 33.9mm
206x13 33.9mm (The very short tip on this needle
is critical. If the 15x1 is used instead the
15x1's longer tip doesn't clear the fabric when the feed dogs are moving
and may hit the bobbin case.)
1221 (CC) 32.1mm
20x1 38.2mm (There are various tip lengths in this series. Rotaries use the shorter tip as the
longer tip hits the bobbin case. Tip length doesn't matter on VS machines.)
The Eldridge in the next post uses a DD (20x1) needle, not the CC (if I recall correctly). The BB is also a 20x1, but has the longer tip.
