I vote for the main floor to sew, and I would not create a second-floor space over the master bedroom for the grand's - they could end up keeping you awake nights or waking you up before dawn! We have our master bedroom over our kitchen/living area and it can get noisy when all the twenty-thirty-somthings are home yakking well into the wee hours. I love the visits but I can live without the racket.
