Always find the more you read the more confused you get lol. I have a Janome 1600pqc with the 9"x6"throat and the take up bar bulk depends on the thinness of your batting and size quilt etc. on a double/queen quilt with a natural batting (quite thin and supple) you can do a 4"-5" pattern.
