each block is quilted on its own, just as if it was going to be a " mini " front, batting, backing ! Then after all the blocks are quilted I join them with the sashing. I butt two blocks up to each other and top stitch the sashing. I sash the back side first using a 1/2 inch narrower strip than I am using on the front, this way when I put the top sashing on, it hides the stitching from the back sash !
