I would ask why you are doing this? To make money? As an act of friendship? Because you enjoy the process, love to make quilts? If it is primarily money, then you definitely need to charge as is appropriate to time spent, at least minimum wage etc. If it is either of the other two that might modify what you charge. I have done a couple of things for friends (not a lot) and charged them only for materials explaining that my work was a gift to them (usually adding "you couldn't afford me"). For me this is a hobby, not a vocation. At the same time, I like to make it clear that it is time consuming and original custom work is expensive.
