Quilters dream claims that their wool batting doesn't shrink if washed in cold water. If the dryer was hot, that might cause shrinking. But I also suspect that the quilting caused some of the shrinkage. Different sites suggest different sizes for quilts, and it's probably best to come up with your own size based on how much overhang you want. Here's another site that I've used -
