I like to label contents of a box by where they were at the house I'm moving from, maybe along with which room they are to go in at the new place--that way, "back hall closet" tells me what's likely in the box. Someone told me (after I had helped a friend pack her kitchen for a local move) to put a styrofoam plate in between plates, then wrap a small stack with paper. Wish I had thought of that. Professional movers packed our liquor stash one time but labeled that box "glassware" or something mundane, so that it wouldn't be singled out by local hires at destination. Another tip: put the bedding you just slept on, including the mattress pad, blankets, etc., in the dryer. That way when the movers set up your bed, you know right where to look for the bedding. I would label fabric stash as "sewing supplies", or "special linens" or some such. Actually, my husband's workshop/tools stuff consume his attention and he could care less about how many boxes of "sewing supplies" I have--he would have way more boxes than I do, lol.
