Well, I had her serviced, and sanded, scraped, and refinished the table. She never ran to my satisfaction, and has been sitting alone in the corner ever since.
My hubs and I do our shopping at the AFB commissary, and I occasionally run into the consignment shop on the base. Yesterday I was taking a quick run through there and saw an ugly, dirty case on a table, along with a box of attachments, buttonholer, and cams. I peeked inside the case and there was a Kenmore 158.17740 (mine is a 158.1830). Price was $25. All I had was $15 and I had to run out and get the rest from DH
Must have been my lucky day! Brought her home, cleaned her out, oiled her, put in a new needle and
she sews like a dream! The insides are pretty clean, I bet she's just been sitting around for years.
Best of all, NO roaches!
She now has a place of honor inside the redone cabinet.
