Default Little Brown Bird

Hello! Two friends and I are each making a Little Brown Bird quilt. We've been working on them together fairly regularly since August 2012. We are each using our own color schemes and it's fun to see how different they look. Connie is using a medium cream batik for her background, I'm using a Moda muslin (also a medium) and Shari is using DARK NAVY batik for hers! Talk about dramatic! She is using fairly bold colors for her applique as she found pastels kind of get lost on the navy. It's going to be gorgeous!

Our approach to the order we do the blocks is different too. Connie and Shari both jump around and do whichever block appeals to them next, while I have done them in order. Plus I complete the embroidery on each block as I complete it. I didn't care for using ink on my blocks, so mine are all hand embroidered. Shari does a lot of ribbon embroidery, and likes to experiment with other embellishments, and Connie does several blocks at a time.

Working together keeps us motivated, and we feed off each other's creativity. Jump in there and start the quilt! I'd love to see your progress!

But I'm wondering has anyone done this quilt in a background that is not tan? I love dark backgrounds but I know there are a lot of colors in the applique so I'm not sure how the flowers and other details would show up.

Of course I will be using fabrics from my stash for all the applique pieces..... I have a fair sized stash. But I'm thinking I need to decide on the background fabric and get enough before I begin. So, what colors have you all used for this quilt? Does anyone have any pictures you would be willing to post.... Once I decide on the background I can start.
