Just wanted to give another perspective on why a hand made item would be on a shelf or in a drawer. It may be too precious to the recipient to use. My mil made us an afghan as a wedding present, and we love it. We did use it on our bed. But my dh was concerned about preserving it. I too did not want anything adverse to happen to it so as kids came along we put it away on a shelf. And a few years later she passed away. It was too precious to risk losing. So it is tucked away not because we didn't like it, but because it will always be a piece of her and we don't want anything to happen to it.
