Diamonds can be of many shapes. You need to know the angles for the diamonds you are trying to make. cjsews suggests a 45 degree angle, Kat sews suggests 60 degrees - your diamond is probably one of these, but you must measure to know for sure.
There are 360 degrees in a circle so if you want a 6 pointed star, you cut 60 degree diamonds (since 6 x 60 = 360) and if you want an 8 pointed star, you cut 45 degree diamonds since 45 x 8 = 360. You can get crazy and draft other sizes too, as long as they are a total of 360 degrees.....
