That does look like the piece you place on the wheel as a brake when you wind a bobbin. Hard to believe that it easily broke off. Hope you can easily get it replaced.

Oh Lord that is the bobbin winder. The machine will sew without it but in flips down to engage the wheel to wind the bobbin. Do you have a separate bobbin winder that you can use to not totally lose out????
