The holes in the base that the rubber feet fit through are not the same on the base for the 401 and the base for the 500. I just sold 500 that the buyer wanted a case for. I measured and drilled a new hole for the 'misplaced' foot of the 500. The top clamps/ catches on the lip of the machine's bed and not the base. Interesting setup. The top on the wooden version weights a ton, this plastic version is very light

The 401 and 503 fit in them, so I don't see why the 404 won't.
The only gotcha is that there's an "adapter" for the foot pedal for some of them so the cord reaches. I don't know the part number of it, but I can photograph one for you.
