I switch it off when I am leaving the room so I know my iron is off. If the lamp is on, the iron is on. Keeps me from forgetting to turn off my iron when I leave my room.
An excellent idea! I am going to steal it! Thanks. And yes, I use a surge protector for my sewing machines & serger.
