For my Bernina, I bought a low shank adapter because back in the old days, Bernina didn't even make a 1/4" foot and I wanted to use Lynn Graves (AKA as the purple lady) 1/4" foot. The shank adapter works fine for me but I would NOT use any foot that wasn't design for that series of sewing machines.
