This is a quilt I made for my father in law, from batik strips, set in solid black:

Sorry the pictures are crummy - I started with a "racer" style quilt but thought it was too boring so I cut it into squares on a 45* angle and then put them back together into larger squares. The border is just strips of squares cut from the original racer.
(Wow, look how ruffly my borders are! This was made before I knew you had to measure the darn things, LOL)
