Have you ever used Scotch guard for Fabric to protect the quilt from stains?
You can find it at Walmart and some fabric stores. I use it on my Christmas place mats. If there is a spill the stain doesn't absorb into the fabric. You may have to test the spray on a sample of fabric first to be sure the colors do not bleed. I have never had a problem with bleeding fabrics from the spray to date. Have fun using your new quilt.
