If memory serves, yes, the brushes are under where you showed. I have a vague memory of those brushes (or maybe the brushes in another Bernina) giving me fits because they were fiddley to manage without "sproinging all over the place" I never did get all the way into that Bernina's motor. I stopped about where you did (besides the brushes) I think I might have cleaned the carbon out of everyhere I could without, and cleaned up the commutator as much as possible with a pencil eraser through the slots. The motor in mine was done though.
