I think if you make a good sturdy hanging sleeve that spans the entire width of the quilt you will be fine no matter how big you go. I have hung full size bed quilts and been to other quilters houses where they did the same. If you have an antique heirloom quilt that you are concerned about, you can always mount the entire quilt to a canvas and then hang it.
