Thanks you for all of your thoughts and suggestions. The more I looked at the quilt and the border, the more I thought they were mismatched. They matched in color, but not in style. So I unstitched the border
I like the border fabric but think I'll save it for another, more formal, medallion-type center. Maybe Carolina lilies or flower baskets!
I shopped Joann fabrics (only fabric store in town besides Walmart), bought some other border fabric, brought it home and wasn't satisfied with it. So on a trip to Walmart this morning I bought a pink/rose 'cottage rose' fabric on a light blue background that I think will work better. It's a less formal style. I'll post a photo here when I get it together.
