Go to your local library and look through the quilting section. They should have books for beginners and you can take a few home and read through them at your leisure to decide what pattern you would like to make.
Check with your library to find if they have a Book Sale periodically. Our local one was this weekend. I found six quilting and applique books for $6. They were in great shape and had a retail value of over $100. If you learn from them, great. If not, donate them back to the library for their next sale. A great way to increase your book stash!
