For those of you who question naming inanimate objects, I would agree with you BUT . . . I have always named my cars and they seem to last forever with little trouble. I discovered that, if you name them, they behave much better. My friend and auto mechanic loved taking care of "Fannie Fury" and telling his wife he worked on my "Fanny." From that I learned to name GPS devices as they all seem to have such personalities and can make MISTAKES! Our Hermione GPS has behaved much better now that she knows her name.
Funny that the only problem child in my sewing machine herd is the Bernina 1260 I have had for 25 years with no name. All the rest are old, sew beautifully and are much loved. I do have two "nused" ones that I'll be naming as soon as I can figure out what their names are supposed to be.
My late southern mama would say that it's probably a verse in some holy book that shares the secret of naming the mechanical devices that you use making them perform better. She'd say that verse is probably near the other one my sister swore existed, "Never wake a sleeping baby!"
