The tricky part is the final cut for the equal 9 patch assembly. The 12 and 3/4 hourglass block divides evenly into 4 squares to reassemble. I would try a sample of 10 1/2 to 11 to see what works for division. Please post if you work it out for those who want a 12 and 1/2 inch block.
My experiment was a little iffy. 11" is too big. Hourglass measured 14-1/4 making the sections 4-3/4 but it finished out At 13+ a smig. I also found that I really do not like dealing with bias edges even tho I starched the squares before starting. I was going to make a small 4th of July wall hanging. I would just say if you plan to make this block into a complete quilt that you make a sample block before starting. Here is the block idea I had...
