I recently saw a beautiful checkerboard/postage stamp quilt made by an Australian lady that blogs as Red Pepper Quilts. No links or pics, as the content isn't mine but worth googling and checking her 2014 finishes.
One caveat, it is "only" 1,600 pieces and 200 fabrics and 50" square.
HA! I'll have to work up to making something with so many small pieces.
