So sorry for what she and your family went through, my prayers go out to both your families. I agree with Tartan that an I Spy quilt, if you can find enough things to "spy" might help her pass the time as she recovers. Another suggestion would be a simple 9-patch and snowball quilt, perhaps with dogs, cats or other animals; it would go together quickly, even if you don't snowball the plain blocks. That's always been my "go-to" quilt when I need one in a hurry.
