Please DON'T put thread/fabric scraps out for birds. It's a nice thought but the threads tangle little feet and necks, and the cotton fabrics don't dry quickly. I've rescued a few unfortunate victims who have lost toes and wingtips because the threads were too tough for Mama bird to snip free. Grasses are safer for nesting.

Put the pile of threads out on a tree. The birds will come and take it and use it in their nests. Then when you see nests you can look for your colorful pieces.
